This specially prepared English-language publication is devoted to design in Central Europe. It features texts on both graphic and product design. The 2D texts will include articles about the typeface design scene in the Czech Republic, which is taking the world by storm, about Slovak freelancers who refuse to work in large ad corporations, and Polish graphic designers who get their inspiration locally. In the product design section we will have a look at the fresh faces on the Czech and Hungarian scenes, and include an interview with a Polish furniture designer on inexpensive luxury and the state of Polish design today. There will also be plenty of critical texts, reports, and editorials. An article about two large international festivals – The International Poster Biennale in Warsaw and the International Graphic Design Biennial in Brno – will also be included. We consider the final aesthetic problem – burial, the relationship between art and design, and the interpretation of Polish posters by foreign critics. We also feature an editorial by Natalia Ilyin Designasaurus Wrex on the dilemmas of the contemporary designer. Readers will also find recommendations for books on the topic of Central European design.
This project has been carried out with the financial support of the International Visegrad Fund.
